Study Guide Review

This Princeton Review study guide is designed to prepare students for the subject specific GRE Literature in English test, one of the GRE Subject Tests.

The book succeeds in presenting a breadth of information in a compact format. A lot of ground is covered and all of the relevant areas, i.e. literary analysis, identification, cultural and historical contexts, and literary criticism, are addressed.

Among other features, there is a helpful grammar section and a list of the most important literary figures. The book also features a full-length GRE Literature Subject Test practice exam with detailed answers and notes. However, because of the guide’s compact format, the analysis and discussion tend to stay on the surface.

Overall, the book is obviously no substitute for reading some of the key literary works yourself, but serves as an extremely helpful guide and outline towards the second stage of your studies.
