Study Guide Review

Cracking an 800 on the SAT’s Math 2 test may seem to be an insurmountable task, but help is at hand with Mike Barrett’s SAT Math 2 Prep Black Book. Mike Barrett, who is also the author of the famous SAT Prep Black Book,  takes a systematic approach to math problems by reducing each of the questions to their constituent elements. In doing so, he demonstrates how to think in terms of rules or patterns when approaching a particular question. He also offers a step-by-step guide on how to deal with particular math questions.

But what makes Barrett’s approach truly unique is that he isn’t content to rest on providing test takers with a generalized guide (or indeed with generalized advice).  Instead, he works through each of the different types of math questions and offers at least two (and sometimes more than that) methodologies for approaching these questions. Given that different brains may view different math questions in very different ways, Barrett shows that difference does not need to be barrier and that totally different test takers can still achieve a high score.

This is not a book that offers practice questions, as Barrett refers test takers to The Official SAT Subject Tests in Mathematics for these. Rather, this is a book that offers strategic advice by explaining every facet of the Math 2 questions and helping test takers to conquer those questions in the least time possible. This is a highly targeted book and one that is essential for overcoming Math 2 hurdles – highly recommended.
